The 10.1.4 update appeared on December 2nd 2014. It was a maintenance release, not a feature update. As well as the usual bug fixes, Apple added very useful import and export features in the form of MXF handling through the separate Pro Video Formats 2.0 installer.

Final Cut Pro X version 10.1.4 is out today. In the above Final Cut Pro in Under 5 Minutes video, Steve Martin from Ripple Training explores one specific new feature: how to import and export MXF files.

With Final Cut Pro 10.1.4, Apple brings native Material eXchange Format (MXF) import, edit and export features via the Pro Video Formats 2.0 software update, as well as the option to export AVC-Intra MXF files. The latest version also supports import and editing of Panasonic AVC-LongG media.

As for bugs, version 10.1.4 fixes problems with automatic library backups, improper import of clips from Canon and Sanyo cameras and an issue that could interrupt long imports when OS X's power-saving App Nap feature was active.

On a couple of occasions in the past few years I have had problems which refused to go away but I didn't trash the preferences because I was sure that these difficulties were nothing to do with corrupt preference files . . . . the troubles lasted for several days in spite of all my troubleshooting efforts until finally as a last resort I decided to trash the prefs . . . and guess what?

I've now trashed the app and re-installed it from the App Store and repaired permissions. It still didn't want to quit. I then realized that I was often clicking twice on the program to start it because it never seemed to respond the first time. I finally letting it sit after clicking only once and it eventually started. It then quit properly but I haven't had a chance to try it more than once.

Back in 2013, I bought a MacBookPro and purchased Final Cut Pro X (version 10.1.4) along with it. It's now the end of 2018, and I just purchased a new MacBook Pro. Now when I search my Purchase History on iTunes (Account > View My Account > Purchase History > See All), there is no record of Final Cut being purchased. The furthest date back I can select on the dropdown menu is 2014, when I purchased Motion. I've also tried dragging and dropping the Final Cut Pro X app from my old MacBook Pro onto an external drive and then onto my new Mac. There's a big white 'ø' sign on the Final Cut icon, but it still transfers. When I double click Final Cut on my desktop, it says the version is not compatible with macOS Mojave and need to download version 10.4.4. I click "Search App Store" and it sends me to the picture I attached below. When I click "Open", absolutely nothing happens.

Final Cut Pro X was made available for purchase and download on the Mac App Store on June 21, 2011 along with new versions of Motion and Compressor.[2][13] Since then the application has been updated a few times each year with new features, bug fixes, native codec support, and overall improvements with stability.[14]

With version 10.0.6 released on October 23, 2012, Apple introduced native Redcode Raw support as well as MXF support through a third party plugin. MXF was eventually natively supported by version 10.1.4.[19]

I have Final Cut Pro X 10.1.4. I usually always use the "share" option to export my video and select whatever format I want to share with. Usually either "Master File" or "YouTube". I also see the option to "Send to Compressor". I researched Apple Compressor and I am trying to figure out if it is worth the money. Does it really export with better options than just what can be done with Final Cut Pro? Also, to convert to different formats I have used Miro Video converter and Handbrake. Does Apple Compressor have a much better system or output than either of these other video converters? Just want to know if it is really worth the $50 USD for Apple Compressor.

Compressor does give you a lot more options to export out, if you were going to to build a DVD using a 3rd party app or wanted to export a full quality final master to send to tape or a production house compressor is the beast you need to use.

I find it is useful when I do Wedding Films as Ill do all my editing of the ceremony, speeches, first dance, short trailer etc then send them all to Compressor to export in DVD mpeg2, Ac3 audio (I think) Mp4 and final full quality, set it to export and walk away or go to bed, when I come back it is all done and Im ready to burn DVD's, upload to Vimeo or Youtube etc.
